About ATTR-PN

What is polyneuropathy associated with hereditary amyloidosis?

Polyneuropathy associated with hereditary amyloidosis (ATTR-PN) is a rare condition that is passed down through families.

People with ATTR-PN have a gene mutation that affects the body’s production of a protein called transthyretin (TTR). Normal TTR helps carry hormones and other substances in the blood, but the mutated gene causes TTR to build up in the organs and nervous system. When there is resulting damage to the nervous system, it is known as polyneuropathy (PN).
